Nail fungus is considered to be one of the most common conditions one can get. However, it is still relatively unheard of for many people. More surprisingly, it is this ignorance that can actually lead to the infection occurring in the first place. Here are some facts about nail fungus that may help you prevent from getting it.

One of the facts that many people do not realize is that nail fungus can actually be caused by both yeast and fungal based infections. Both of them are rather contagious and hygiene are not a guarante to prevent or cure it. Nail fungus treatments should be called upon to ensure that others won’t catch the same infection. Keeping the area clean may make you feel better but it can’t get rid of the fungus at all.

The fungus and yeast infection can be spread by walking barefoot in public areas such as swimming pools and changing rooms. Using nail fungus treatment is very important as soon as you notice any of the symptoms of this irritating infection.

Another facts about nail fungus infection is that it is more likely that a person will get it on their toenails than their fingernails. It is more common to have the fungus growing on the feet than it is on the hands due to the area being rather moist and damp. As a result, nail fungus treatments are needed to cure the infection.

A nail fungus takes some time to heal and all of the nail fungus treatments in the world will not remove the symptoms over night. Anti-fungal medications can be called upon to reduce the symptoms. Generally speaking, the infection will take some time to heal and during this time it is very important that you refrain from walking around in barefoot to ensure others won’t catch the same infection.

Nail fungus infection won’t heal automatically unless right treatments are taken. Oral medications are effective but can have harmful side effects including headaches, upset stomach, liver damage and rashes. Some natural essential oils can treat the condition, initially. Aside from curing finger nail fungus, these natural oils have other benefits in the overall health.

NaturesPharma remains unique in combining extensive in vitro and in vivo research on the curative effects of medicinal plants utilizing the corresponding successful clinical application of these extracts in a conventional medicinal fashion.

The use of medicinal plants is taking an increasingly greater role in the treatment of nail fungus as conventional medicine has few effective solutions. Powerless, and faced with treatment failures, some doctors are actively seeking alternative effective treatments to resolve this inadequacy. Created by competent scientists, our nail fungus treatment–AntiNail Fungus-Rx provides real opportunities to safely eliminate nail fungus with encouraging measurable results.

Very recent advances in the scientific understanding of the medicinal plant extracts in AntiNail Fungus-Rx suggest a much broader use of natural medicine to treat and cure nail fungus than science thought possible just ten years ago. Rachel Broune asked:

A nail disorder is a condition caused by injury to the nail or disease or imbalance in the body. Most, if not all, of you have had some type of common nail disorder. When in doubt, please see your physician for the proper diagnosis. Distorted, discoloured or otherwise unsightly ‘abnormal’ fingernails and toenails are very common problems experienced by people of all ages in the community. Damage to the nail may be caused by an injury, fungal disease, or other skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema. The nail unit is made up of several components which form, support, protect and frame the nail itself. These include the nail matrix, the nail plate, the cuticle, the nail bed and nail folds. The nail unit protects fingertips, enhances fine touch and is important as a cosmetic structure.

Types of Nail Disorders

Paronychia infections – of the nail fold can be caused by bacteria, fungi and some viruses. The proximal and lateral nail folds act as a barrier, or seal, between the nail plate and the surrounding tissue. If a tear or a break occurs in this seal, the bacterium can easily enter. this type of infection is characterized by pain, redness and swelling of the nail folds. If the bacteria has entered between the nail plate and the nail bed, it will cause the same discolorations and may also cause the nail plate to lift from the nail bed.

Pseudomonas bacterium – trapped between the nail plate and the nail bed.

A fungal or yeast infection which results in Onychomycosis, can invade through a tear in the proximal and lateral nail folds as well as the eponychium. This type of infection is characterized by onycholysis (nail plate separation) with evident debris under the nail plate. It normally appears white or yellowish in color, and may also change the texture and shape of the nail. The fungus digests the keratin protein of which the nail plate is comprised.

Leuconychia is evident as white lines or spots in the nail plate and may be caused by tiny bubbles of air that are trapped in the nail plate layers due to trauma. This condition may be hereditary and no treatment is required as the spots will grow out with the nail plate.

Koilonychia is usually caused through iron deficiency anemia. these nails show raised ridges and are thin and concave. Seek a physicians advice and treatment.

Melanonychia are vertical pigmented bands, often described as nail ‘moles’, which usually form in the nail matrix. Seek a physicians care should you suddenly see this change in the nail plate. It could signify a malignant melanoma or lesion. Dark streaks may be a normal occurrence in dark-skinned individuals, and are fairly common.

Onychophagy – Is the medical term for nails that have been bitten enough to become deformed. This condition can be greatly improved by regular manicures or artificial nails. It is not realistic to tell a nail biter to come back for artificial nails after they have grown a free edge. Artificial nails can help this person break the biting habit. There are also nail biting topically applied remedies available.

Leukonychia – Is a condition in which white spots appear on the nails. It is caused by air bubbles, a bruise or other injury to the nail.

Leukonchia can not be corrected but it will grow out.

Furrows – Also known as corrugations, are long ridges that run either lengthwise or across the nail. Some lengthwise ridges are normal in adults.

These ridges increase with age and can also be caused by psoriasis, poor circulation and frostbite. Ridges that run across the nail are caused by high fevers, pregnancy & measles.

Yellow nail syndrome: – Slow growing, excessively curved and thickened yellow nails which are associated with peripheral lymphoedema and exudative pleural effusions.

Paronychia is inflammation of the tissue around the finger nail, with pus accumulating between the cuticle and the nail matrix. The area may become swollen, red and tender.

Treatment and Diagnosis of Nail Disorders

Nail disorders diagnosis is by inspection. Early treatment is warm compresses or soaks and an antistaphylococcal antibiotic. Other treatment ptions include:

Eliminate potential food allergens, including dairy, wheat (gluten), corn, preservatives, and food additives. Your health care provider may want to test for food sensitivities.

Eat calcium rich foods, including beans, almonds, and dark green leafy vegetables (such as spinach and kale).

Eat antioxidant foods, including fruits (such as blueberries, cherries, and tomatoes), and vegetables (such as squash and bell peppers).

Avoid refined foods such as white breads, pastas, and sugar.

Eat fewer red meats and more lean meats, cold-water fish, tofu (soy) or beans for protein.

Green tea ( Camellia sinensis ) standardized extract, 250 – 500 mg daily, for inflammation and antibacterial or antifungal effects. You may also prepare teas from the leaf of this herb.

Cat’s claw ( Uncaria tomentosa ) standardized extract, 20 mg three times a day, for antibacterial or antifungal effects.

You may have seen a few different advertisements or commercials about nail fungus treatment and prevention but some really don’t know what nail fungus actually is. Nail fungus is a fungal infection of the nail also known as onychomycosis in the medial world.

Nail fungus will typically infect the toenails as a common occurrence. Very seldom will nail fungus attack the fingernails. Studies show that approximately twelve percent of the U.S. population has some sort of nail fungus and it is typical to persons of all ages. People over 40 are most susceptible to nail fungus. Like many other forms of affliction, nail fungus is hereditary. Those who have a suppressed immune system due to certain diseases or treatments may be more susceptible to nail fungus. People who have been diagnosed with AIDS, have received transplants or are undergoing cancer treatments are at higher risk.

You must make an appointment with a dermatologist in order to determine if you have nail fungus. They will scrape your infected nail and give you microscopic examination. The nail will be carefully examined with a microscope which helps to determine what type of fungus is growing in the nail. Your dermatologist will determine if you have nail fungus and which type you have. Dermatophytes are nail fungus usually found in the toenails. Yeast is the common type of nail fungus found in the fingernails.

If your dermatologist has diagnosed nail fungus, he or she will prescribe one of many varieties of treatments available to combat the infection. Among the treatments for nail fungus, there are prescriptions such as gels, creams and lotions that may be effective in treating mild cases of nail fungus. For particularly acute cases, your dermatologist may prescribe oral medication to solve the problem. In extreme cases, your doctor may remove the nail, either the section infected or the entire nail to assist in treatment for the nail fungus.

Except the ugly aspects, there are still good news about nail fungus that is if you do get it it can be treated considerably quickly. There are also steps you can take to avoid getting the infection or avoid getting it again. Talk to your dermatologist, he or she will provide you with the necessary information you need about nail fungus and how you can prevent it.

Prevention is still best to avoid nail fungus but if the fungus does occur, here are some options you can do for treatment. Prescribed oral medications are effective which must be taken for several months. However, these medications can have harmful side effects including headaches, upset stomach, liver damage and rashes. Natural remedies such as apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil are supposedly helpful in treating finger nail fungus. In addition, some essential oils can treat the condition, initially. Aside from curing finger nail fungus, these natural oils have other benefits in the overall health.

Nail Fungus – The DMSO factor

A nail fungus infection is a condition called onychomycosis. It is the most common nail problem with about 20 – 40 million Americans being affected. The main concern is the nail discoloration (usually yellow or brown) and change in nail texture and growth. Nail fungus can make the nail thick or can become crumbly, break easily, and grow irregularly. The body naturally has a host of microorganisms inside of it including bacteria and fungi that grow within the body. We need bacteria in our gut to give us nutrients and help break down food. What we don’t need are microscopic plant organisms that feed on our tissue called dermatophytes. Once fungus gets into the nail bed it can be very difficult to treat, but with proper medication it can go away on its own. Because the fungus grows slowly, it can be hard to eliminate. Anti-fungal medications are available to combat fungal infections; however, they are strong oral medications that must be taken consistently for months in order to be effective. The medications also have potential side effects to other body organs (especially the liver, skin and/or bone marrow). To monitor side effects your physician must order periodic blood tests (usually monthly) during treatment. Any of the symptoms (listed below) suggesting organ damage should be reported immediately to your physician.

Unusual fatigue

Severe loss of appetite

Nausea

Yellow eyes

Dark urine

Pale stool

Skin rashes

Bleeding

Enlarged lymph glands

There are natural alternative treatments that work better than prescription medications and without the harmful side effects. Natural medications work with the body because they are found in nature. DMSO (Dimethyl sulfoxide) is an all natural byproduct of the wood processing industry (pine trees) and has over 50,000 medical studies to its credit. DMSO has the amazing ability of entering “through” the nail and into the nail bed, and is considered a chemical penatration enhancer in the medical community. This can be very useful getting antifungal medications into the nail where they belong. DMSO enters the body by “osmosis” and is easily absorbed in the body. The attributes of DMSO has led thousands of people to use it on a host of problems like painful sore joints to even herpes. When entering through the nail it also brings other antifungal extracts with it into the nail. Extracts like Tea tree oil (Melaleuca), Peppermint (mentha piperita), Camphor (cinnamomum), and Oregano (Origanum vulgare) all help heal nail fungus naturally because they are antifungal (antimicrobial) in nature. Plants have natural antifungal agents inside of them to protect themselves from fungi. It takes weeks if not months to eliminate nail fungus, but with proper nail care and the right medication you can do it.

Nails can attract people if you keep them in shape. Girls have started growing nails in their fingers and also maintain its beauty. There are many things you should keep in mind while growing your finger nails. First you should clean your nails after taking bath.

It is very important to keep the nails without nail polish once in a while, so that it allows them to breathe. It is also advisable to keep a hand lotion or cream near the kitchen sink. It is also essential to wear gloves while doing household chores or gardening and rub cream on the hands, before putting on the gloves.

It is very important to remove old nail polish at least once a week. There are 2 main types of nail polish removers to choose from. Acetone removers take off the polish very quickly, but dry the cuticles. Non-acetone removers take longer to remove polish, but dry the nails and cuticles. If people have artificial nails, it is advisable to use only non-acetone removers. It is also very essential to file the nails in one direction only. The nails weaken if a person uses the file back and forth. It helps to soak the hands in soapy water to soften cuticles and clean the nails.

Many a times, people who go for acrylic nails face a number of problems when it comes to removing the nails, once they have served their purpose. It is very important to be aware of the correct way to remove the acrylic nails; otherwise there is a possibility that one may severely damage his real nails.

A very popular, cheap and effective way of removing the acrylic nails is to use acetone. One must buy pure acetone, which is easily available from any store that sells regular nail polish remover. The nails should then be clipped as far as possible. Now the elaborate method is as follows. Take some aluminum foil and cut it into squares. Now, wet the cotton balls with acetone, lay it on the nail and cover it as tightly as possible with the aluminum foil. Repeat the procedure for all 10 nails or do one hand at a time. Do not open the foil for at least 20 minutes. Once the time elapses, remove the foils one at a time and with a wood pusher or orange wood stick scrape the acrylic off. Ideally it should come right off, however the process can be repeated if there are some traces left. Another way of removing the nails using acetones is to soak the hands in warm water for some time. Then soak them in acetone and the acrylic nails will then become soft and easily remove.

A Nail is a horn-like structure at the end of an animal’s finger or toe made of a tough protein called keratin. The major enemies of nails are water, cold, aggressive manicures, detergents, certain solvents, allergic substances, trauma. The fingernails and toenails may also suffer from fungal infections (dermatophytes) and bacteria. The most common changes are as follows:

Fungi: The most common fungal infections affecting fingernails and toenails are caused by fungi known as dermatophytes. During the fungal infections, the nail is detached from the nailbed, and then appear whitish-yellow spots.  As the infection increases, it may appear on the infected nail a green pigment resulting of a significant bacterial colonization. The base of the finger becomes red and painful. The infection can actually appear first in one nail and then extend to other nails. Humidity (water) may promote chronic infection.

Cosmetic allergies: cosmetic allergies can occur in the nails after applying on the skin (sensitive  skin) some products that contain allergic substances. This reaction can be characterized in many different ways. For example, in some cases, the nails are split into layers, in others, the nails may have streaks or grooves. Sometimes, it can appear on the nails white, black or brown spots. Likewise, nails or cuticle inflammation can happen.

Drug Allergies: Those types of allergies can occur in the nails after taking drinks, food or drugs containing allergenic substances. The nails change color, become black, others brown, green, etc.. The only difference in these colors with those caused by trauma, fungi, or systemic diseases is that they may disappear in a very short time.

The Paronychia: Paronychia is a soft tissue infection around a fingernail. It occurs when bacteria entering the skin around the nail. It is characterized by an inflammation of the folds around the nails. Generally infectious, the proximal fold is the one most affected by intense inflammation, swelling and pain, often with blisters, pustules or bulbs and loss of cuticles. It usually reaches only one or two fingers. The routes of infection are usually minimal injuries. It is also associated with the habit of sucking the finger, manicures and removing false nails. The treatment is based antiseptics, emollients, antifungics and antibiotics.

Other nails problems: The nails tend break and split easily by traumatic process, aggressive manicures; or the use of chemicals, such as alkaline detergents, bad cosmetics, nail hardeners excessively charged with formalin or poorly made solvents. Malnutrition can affect the nails due to lack of vitamins and minerals. Nutritional deficiencies reflect on the state of health of our nails, they become brittle, fragile, soft, lose their thickness and texture, and have spots of different colors.

Prevention

The preventive treatment of nails consists of a good hygiene: cut the nails properly, treat early the thickening of the base of the nail (onychauxis) and any fungal infections of the nails. Avoid the nails to: water (for a long period of time) aggressive manicures, detergent products, bad cosmetics, allergic substances, trauma, bacteria or fungi.

bcured asked:

You can get a nail fungus infection when you come in contact with the fungus and it begins to grow on or under your nail.

Nail fungus infections are usually caused by dermatophytes (a fungus group). But nail fungus infection can appear if there are yeasts and molds on your body.

All of these microscopic organisms live in warm, moist environments (including swimming pools and showers). They can infect your skin through small unseen cuts or through a little separation between your nail and nail bed. They cause problems only if your nails are continually exposed to warmth and moisture, a perfect condition for the growth and spread of fungi.

The risk to be infected by nail fungus will be higher if you have a condition called onycholysis (the separation of the nail from the skin beneath).

Symptoms of nail fungus infection will depend on the type of fungus infection you have. Nail fungus infection can cause unpleasant feeling but usually will not hurt you at the beginning.

The most common nail fungus infection, distal subungual onychomycosis, is caused by dermatophytes. It infects both the nail and the nail bed (skin underneath the nail). Dermathophytes cause approximately 90% off all toenail fungus infection. Some common symptoms if your nail infected by demathophytes are as follows:

Your nail distorted in shape.

Yellow stripes in the nail bed and on the underside of the nail.

Dry, with no luster or shine.

Buildup of bits and pieces of skin and nail fragments (debris) under the nail.

Easily broken, crumbly or ragged.

Infected nails may also separate from the nail bed, a condition called onycholysis. You may even feel pain in your toes or fingertips and detect a slightly foul odor.

The second most common nail fungus infection that also caused by dermatophytes is white superficial onychomycosis. This type of nail fungus infection appears on the nail surface. Some symptoms of white superficial onychomycosis are as follows:

White stripes or spots on your nail surface.

As the infection gets worse, your nail surface becomes soft and powdery.

Your nail surface color becomes brown of gray and crumbly, however the nail does not separate from the skin underneath.

And there are two types of rare nail fungus infection, Candida onychomycosis and Proximal subungal onychomycosis. Candida onychomycosis is a fungus infection that causes approximately 1% of fungal nail infections. Proximal subungual onychomycosis is a rare fungus infection, only less than 1% off all nail fungus infection.

Most doctors erroneously believe that nail fungus is only treatable via oral medicines, and quickly reach for their prescription pads to treat nail fungus infections. In doing so, one of the following drugs is most likely to be prescribed:

Itraconazole (Sporonox)

Fluconazole (Diflucan)

Terfinabine (Lamisil)

It is true that treatment of nail fungus is indeed a challenge because the infection is embedded within the nail and is difficult to reach. As a result, full removal of symptoms via current prescription medications is very slow and may take a year or more.

Of course, there are always possibilities of side effects with these medications, including headaches, stomach disorder, and the ever present issue with Rx medications–liver damage. Further, mixing these with other drugs can be extremely dangerous.

Then there is the issue of cost; treatment course for some medications exceeds $900. For this amount, you will have a 50-70% chance of cure, which is a C minus to F if being graded, or a $900 investment with a 30-50% failure rate.

Topical chemical treatments such as ciclopiroxolamine, referred to as “nail paints,” are often prescribed. A combination of both oral and topical medications is also prescribed by doctors, making the drug companies very happy.

In July 2007, an analysis of the findings of 6 clinical trials for topical nail fungus treatments was reported. The main conclusions, as per Wikipedia Encyclopedia, were:

There is some evidence that ciclopiroxolamine and butenafine are both effective, but both need to be applied daily for prolonged periods (at least 1 year).

There is evidence that topical ciclopiroxolamine has poor cure rates, but amorolfine might be more effective.

Further research into the effectiveness of antifungal agents for nail infections is required.

The problem with using chemical drugs to treat nail fungus is that unlike bacteria, both human and fungal cells are similar on a molecular level; they are both eukaryotes. As a result, it is very difficult to create an effective antifungal drug that does not also damage the human system.

This topical anti fungal agent NailFungusCure delivers a broad spectrum of action against fungi causing nail fungus, meaning it kills the fungus and acts as a curative agent. The treatment has a proven ability to eliminate and cure nail fungus on the toes and fingers time after time. It is possibly the most powerful and effective topical nail fungus treatment on the market. Due to this, NailFungusCure has proved to be unrivaled in the elimination of nail fungus.

NailFungusCure contains very potent certified organic medicinal plant extracts and antifungal essential oils. These extracts exhibit a wide spectrum of antifungal activity, and in laboratory tests they have demonstrated their ability to kill the fungi causing nail fungus infections. Results are usually experienced in a matter of days.

This is a painless yet strong topical treatment, delivering remarkable results in the elimination of nail fungus. NailFungusCure returns the nail to its original state prior to the onset of the infection. As the treatment can effectively eliminate nail fungus, prescription medications for nail fungus may soon become a thing of the past.

The antifungal properties of NailFungusCure are able to stop germination of the fungus. This restricts the infection from spreading to adjacent body parts or nails, which is necessary to properly treat nail fungus. This will come as a relief to those of you who wear artificial finger nails or toenails. There has been no case of anyone having acrylic nail fungus, because it does not exist. The fungi affects your real nails not your fake one. Some people wear fake nails to make their nails look better or to even try and hide their nails that have been infected with fungi.

Using fake nails it not a cure for the problem, in fact it will make it worse if you do not treat it properly and quickly. If you wear fake toenail because your toes are infected the best thing you can do is remove those fake nail, trim your real nails as far back as possible and begin your treatment. You know it is going to be ugly, but you have to do it. It is better you deal with the ugliness and stink in order for your nails to get better.

Visit your doctor if you feel you have a toe nail fungus infection so you can find out what is the best treatment for you. Prescription medication can be real expensive and very dangerous to your health. They are some side effects that you must be a ware of, such as, liver failure and heart failure.
