Nail Care Tips & Advice

Capri College, which boasts top-notch career-training in cosmetology, Esthetics, massage therapy and nail technology, offers prospective students three convenient campus locations in Iowa (Cedar Rapids, Davenport, and Dubuque) and a unique approach to starting their education. “One of the unique programs we offer is a trial period of three weeks to start a class,” explains Capri College’s Executive Marketing Director Anthony Fiegen. “After the end of the three weeks, it gives both us and the individual to see if this is the right choice.”

Fiegen elaborated on Capri College’s knowledgeable staff, “We’ve been doing massage therapy since 1992.” Milady instruction in the massage therapy program includes anatomy, physiology, Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, prenatal, geriatric and infant massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, ear candling, CPR and first aid, chair/corporate massage, among other related subject matter. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, successful massage therapists can earn upwards of $30 or more an hour.

Another popular course of study is Capri College’s nail technology curriculum, which is comprised of 300 classroom hours (12 credit hours), is great for students interested in becoming professional nail technicians, salon managers/owners or product sales representatives. “The nail technology program teaches everything you’d want to know about pedicure, nail disorders/disease, nail enhancement, sculptured nails, wraps, fiberglass, gels,” says Fiegen. “Students learn basic chemistry as well.”

Capri College’s Esthetician program is another excellent choice — this one for individuals seeking careers as skin care specialists, estheticians, and salon or spa owners. Fiegen stressed the seven-month program’s positive reception, especially among cosmetology students who return to Capril College to take the program. “they learn everything about skin care — the anatomy and physiology of the face and skin. You’ll learn about every muscle and bone, different skin types, skin diseases (pathology), microderm abrasion, mud masks, facial peels,” he explains.

Additionally, Capri College affords successful graduates with its instructor training program, which encompasses 1,000 clock hours (33.3 semester credit hours).

Participating in a variety of financial aid programs, like PELL grants and other student loans, students at Capri College gain essential career training aspects. Aside from teaching students how to effectively write a resume, Fiegen accentuated Capri College’s ability to attract potential employers. “A lot of times, existing salons, spas and chiropractic clinics will call us.”

In addition to its massage therapy program’s accreditation by the AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association), Capri College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) and is regulated by the Iowa State Department of Health.
